Retail version of Rise of nations and Rise of nations Thrones & Patriots was released on 2004 in a 2 CD rom version for EU and was published by defunct xplosiv aka Empire Interactive and the expansion works (CD key and Disc Check) on windows 10, meanwhile the original game does not work on windows 10 retail. The 'rise of nations gold dvd rom edition' can often be found on store shelves. It is the most cost effective way of acquiring the game, as it contains the following games on a single DVD-ROM:
